On October 2, 2024, Charleston Area Medical Center, Inc. (“CAMC“) discovered that a small number of its email users had fallen victim to a phishing attack. CAMC subsequently conducted an investigation, which uncovered a cybercriminal had accessed the personally identifiable information contained within a CAMC user’s email account between October 2, 2024, and October 3, 2024. Specifically, the compromised information includes the following sensitive data:
- full names
- dates of birth
- phone numbers
- email addresses
- Social Security numbers
- health information
- health insurance information
- driver’s license numbers

CAMC recently provided notice of the data breach. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims.
