On December 21, 2024, Caruth Compliance Consulting, Inc. (“CCC”) discovered suspicious activity on certain computer systems within its environment. Subsequently, CCC conducted an investigation, which uncovered a cybercriminal had stolen the personally identifiable information contained therein between December 19, 2024, and December 26, 2024. According to CCC, the compromised information taken during the data breach includes the following sensitive data:
- full names
- Social Security numbers
- financial account information
- driver’s license numbers
- W-2 information
- tax filings
- medical billing information
- tax filings

Caruth Compliance Consulting, Inc. recently posted notice of the data breach on its website. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. As is likely to be the case with the CCC data breach, in previous cyberattacks, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
