Cartier Independent Repair Warranty Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating whether Cartier watch owners may have had warranty coverage improperly restricted or denied because their watches were previously serviced or repaired outside Cartier’s authorized service network.

Cartier’s current warranty language excludes certain defects or damage associated with unauthorized repairs or service. The wording appears more closely tied to damage caused by unauthorized work than the broader automatic warranty-voiding language used by some other luxury watch manufacturers. Pasted markdown

Accordingly, Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating how Cartier applies this policy in practice, including whether owners have had unrelated warranty claims denied simply because an independent watchmaker previously opened, serviced, or repaired their watch, even where the independent work did not cause the later problem.

Owners May Have Experienced:

  • Having a Cartier watch serviced by an independent watchmaker;
  • Being told that independent service affected the remaining factory warranty;
  • Having a subsequent warranty claim denied because of previous independent service;
  • Being required to use Cartier or an authorized service center to preserve warranty coverage;
  • Paying higher authorized-service prices because of concerns about losing the warranty; or
  • Paying out of pocket for an unrelated defect after warranty coverage was refused.

Potential Claims May Include:

  • Improper warranty restrictions;
  • Violations of applicable federal warranty law;
  • Breach of express or implied warranties;
  • Unfair or deceptive trade practices;
  • Recovery of improperly denied repair expenses; and
  • Recovery of other economic losses associated with warranty restrictions.

Signs You May Be Affected:

  • You purchased a Cartier watch with remaining warranty coverage;
  • Your watch was previously opened, serviced, or repaired independently;
  • Cartier later denied coverage for a separate problem;
  • The denial referenced unauthorized service or repair;
  • You chose higher-cost authorized service because you were concerned about losing your warranty; or
  • You have warranty correspondence, service estimates, repair records, or other documentation concerning the denial.
