Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating a defect affecting certain 2026 Toyota bZ, Lexus RZ, and Subaru Solterra electric vehicles that may cause the electric drive system to unexpectedly shut down while the vehicle is being driven.
Recall 26V393 covers approximately 20,991 vehicles, including 11,495 Toyota bZ vehicles, 4,757 Subaru Solterra vehicles, and 4,739 Lexus RZ vehicles. The defect involves the battery ECU and can result in a shutdown of the electric drive system.
The problem can occur during actual driving. One reported incident involved a Solterra displaying an “EV system malfunction” warning and completely losing propulsion while traveling at approximately 40 mph. There have also been reports of difficulties completing the recall software remedy.
Owners May Have Experienced:
- An “EV system malfunction” or similar warning;
- Sudden loss of propulsion while driving;
- The vehicle becoming unable to accelerate;
- Battery ECU or communication-related diagnostic codes;
- Towing or dealership visits following a shutdown; or
- Difficulty obtaining or successfully completing the recall software update.
