Lyft Personalized Ride Pricing Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating whether Lyft riders are shown different prices, reference prices, or purported discounts based on individual account information, ride history, or other personal information.

A 2026 Consumer Reports investigation reportedly found substantial differences when researchers conducted simultaneous comparisons of rideshare prices. The research raised questions not only about potentially individualized ride pricing but also about advertised percentage discounts and the undiscounted prices against which those savings were calculated. Lyft disputed that the observed differences established surveillance pricing.

Migliaccio & Rathod is investigating whether two similarly situated Lyft riders can receive materially different quotes for the same trip and whether personalized discounts are calculated against genuine and consistently applied reference prices.

For example, a rider may be told that a particular fare represents a percentage discount. If the purported original price was individually increased or otherwise does not represent a genuine price at which the ride would ordinarily have been offered, the advertised savings may be misleading.

Consumers May Have Experienced:

  • Receiving a different Lyft quote than another rider for the same trip;
  • Comparing prices at approximately the same time and seeing substantial differences;
  • Receiving personalized percentage-off promotions;
  • Seeing an undiscounted reference price that differed from another customer’s;
  • Receiving an advertised discount without actually paying less than comparable riders; or
  • Seeing persistent pricing differences associated with their account.

Potential Claims May Include:

  • Undisclosed individualized pricing;
  • False or misleading reference pricing;
  • Misrepresentation of percentage discounts or savings;
  • Unfair or deceptive trade practices;
  • Unjust enrichment; and
  • Violations of applicable state consumer-protection laws.

Signs You May Be Affected:

  • You regularly use Lyft;
  • You received percentage-off or personalized ride promotions;
  • You compared your quote with another rider requesting the same trip;
  • Another rider received a substantially lower quote;
  • Your discounted fare was similar to or higher than another person’s regular fare; or
  • You have screenshots showing different prices or reference prices for comparable rides.
