PFAS are a class of synthetic chemicals often used to make cosmetics more waterproof, long-lasting, or resistant to sweat and oil. These chemicals are called “forever chemicals” because they break down very slowly and may accumulate in the human body and the environment. Recent FDA reporting and independent scientific studies have raised concerns that PFAS continue to appear in numerous cosmetic products despite increasing regulatory scrutiny and state laws restricting intentionally added PFAS in cosmetics.
