Bryant Street Pumping Station Janitorial Worker Wage Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating whether cleaners assigned to the DC Water facility at 301 Bryant Street NW received the wages, overtime, and contractual benefits they earned.

What is the issue?

Cleaning employees at the Bryant Street facility may have been covered by wage requirements tied to DC Water’s service contracts. These requirements can exceed the ordinary minimum wage and may include additional hourly fringe-benefit payments.

The D.C. Attorney General previously alleged that Clean Team underpaid janitors working at DC Water facilities. National Labor Relations Board records specifically identify 301 Bryant Street NW as a location where Clean Team employed full-time and regular part-time cleaners.

Workers may have experienced:

  • Being paid the ordinary minimum wage instead of the higher contract rate.
  • Missing cash payments in place of health or other fringe benefits.
  • Unpaid time before clocking in or after clocking out.
  • Having breaks deducted despite remaining responsible for cleaning duties.
  • Hours divided between buildings or payroll records to avoid overtime.
  • Late, incomplete, or unexplained paychecks.

Signs you may be affected

  • You worked as a janitor, cleaner, custodian, porter, floor technician, or other building-services employee at the Bryant Street DC Water facility.
  • You worked for Clean Team or another cleaning or facilities contractor rather than directly for DC Water.
  • You performed cleaning duties before clocking in, after clocking out, or during unpaid meal breaks.
  • You worked more than 40 hours in a week but did not receive proper overtime pay.
  • You were paid less than the contract wage or did not receive required fringe-benefit payments.
  • Your employer changed or reduced your recorded hours, or your paycheck did not accurately reflect the time you worked.

Workers do not need to know the name of every contractor involved. The identity of the prime contractor and lower-tier companies can ordinarily be determined through contracts, payroll records, and discovery.
