Manhattan Comfort Floating Entertainment Center Detachment Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports that certain Manhattan Comfort floating entertainment centers and wall-mounted TV consoles may detach from the wall despite consumers following the company’s installation instructions.

In 2024, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled approximately 46,750 Manhattan Comfort floating entertainment centers after receiving dozens of reports that the units detached from the wall, resulting in property damage and injuries. According to the recall, the supplied mounting hardware may not have adequately secured the entertainment centers in common drywall installations, creating a serious fall hazard. Consumers continue to report concerns involving similar Manhattan Comfort floating entertainment centers that loosen, separate from the wall, or unexpectedly fall during normal household use.

What Consumers Report

Consumers report:

  • Floating entertainment centers gradually pulling away from the wall.
  • Cabinets detaching despite being installed according to the instructions.
  • Mounting hardware failing during ordinary household use.
  • Damage to televisions, soundbars, gaming systems, flooring, drywall, and furniture.
  • Needing to purchase additional hardware after installation because the supplied hardware appeared inadequate.
  • Difficulty obtaining reimbursement for damaged property following a collapse.
  • Concerns that similar Manhattan Comfort wall-mounted entertainment centers use comparable mounting designs.

Why Consumers Should Be Concerned

Floating entertainment centers are marketed as safe, modern storage solutions designed to securely support televisions and other entertainment equipment when properly installed. Consumers reasonably expect the supplied mounting hardware and installation instructions to safely support the product under ordinary residential conditions.

When a wall-mounted entertainment center unexpectedly detaches, however, the resulting damage can extend far beyond the furniture itself. Falling cabinets may destroy expensive electronics, damage flooring and drywall, and create a substantial risk of serious injury to anyone nearby.

The CPSC recall suggests that certain Manhattan Comfort entertainment centers may have been sold with mounting systems that did not adequately account for foreseeable installation conditions. Consumers may have unknowingly relied upon the supplied hardware without realizing additional reinforcement could be necessary.

This investigation seeks to determine whether additional Manhattan Comfort floating entertainment centers suffer from similar design or installation-related defects and whether consumers were adequately warned about those risks.
