Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating whether the Dupixent side effects may include a higher risk for T-cell lymphoma.
What is Dupixent?
Dupixent (dupilumab) is a medication used to treat certain skin and respiratory conditions. It has been a top-selling drug and effective for treatment. However, recent research has begun to indicate that there may be serious health concerns related to the Dupixent side effects and the risk of T-cell lymphoma.
Dupixent is a prescription injectable medication. It is used to treat various conditions, such as moderate to severe eczema, asthma, and more. Dupixent was first approved in 2017 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a treatment for atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema. Its approved uses have since expanded and it is now used to treat asthma, chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, eosinophilic esophagitis, Prurigo nodularis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
What is the concern with Dupixent Side Effects?
The drug works by blocking a key source of inflammation in the body. It has been effective at reducing symptoms in this way. However, recent research is showing that this may also have dangerous consequences. The process that makes Dupixent effective at treating this inflammation may also interfere with the body’s ability to regulate abnormal cells. This may allow cancer cells to develop.
Shortly after it went on the market, research began to emerge linking Dupixent with T-cell lymphoma. T-cell lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the immune system. Specifically, Dupixent has been connected with Cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma, which starts on the skin, and Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma, which is found in the lymph nodes.
Several studies have emerged that show the possibility of this connection. Though research is still ongoing to determine what that relationship might be, many feel that Dupixent is not taking sufficient action to warn of the possible risk and that manufacturers Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Sanofi-Aventis should be doing more.
