Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating Apple and Google parental controls following reports that these functions fail to adequately protect children from restricted content.
Reported Issues:
Consumers report
- That minors have been able to purchase apps capable of generating sexualized or nude images
- That minors can easily bypass screentime restrictions set by parental controls
- That minors have purchased apps that are age restricted based on sexual, violent, or otherwise inappropriate features
- That Google Play and the Apple App Store allow apps with sexual or inappropriate features to be rated as suitable for minors, bypassing the parental controls designed to block them.

Signs You May Be Affected:
- You have enabled Google or Apple parental controls on your child’s device
- Your child was able to download or access apps you believed were restricted
- Your child was able to download or access apps that were labeled as age-appropriate but included sexual, violent, or otherwise inappropriate features
- Your child was able to bypass the screentime restrictions set by parental controls
- You believe the Google or Apple parental control features do not function as advertised or intended
