T1-11 Plywood Siding Failure Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating whether certain T1-11 plywood siding panels prematurely delaminate, swell, warp, or otherwise deteriorate despite being properly installed, primed, painted, and used under ordinary exterior conditions.

The investigation currently focuses on:

  • Georgia-Pacific — Plytanium T1-11 Plywood Siding
  • Boise Cascade — Southern Yellow Pine T1-11 Plywood Siding

T1-11 plywood siding is commonly used on homes, garages, sheds, workshops, barns, and other exterior structures because it is marketed as durable exterior siding capable of withstanding normal weather exposure. Consumers reasonably expect these panels to remain structurally sound for many years when installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Instead, numerous homeowners, contractors, and DIY builders report that certain T1-11 panels begin to absorb moisture, bubble, delaminate, split, warp, or otherwise deteriorate shortly after installation—even when properly sealed, primed, painted, and maintained. Some consumers report visible damage after only days or weeks of ordinary exposure to rain and humidity.

What Consumers Report

Consumers report:

  • Plywood layers separating or delaminating shortly after installation.
  • Bubbling, swelling, or warping despite proper painting and sealing.
  • Edge swelling and moisture intrusion following ordinary rainfall.
  • Panels becoming soft, structurally weakened, or beginning to rot prematurely.
  • Replacing large sections of siding long before consumers reasonably expected replacement would be necessary.
  • Warranty claims being denied based upon alleged installation or maintenance issues despite following the manufacturer’s published instructions.

Why Consumers Should Be Concerned

Exterior siding is intended to protect homes and other buildings from weather for many years. Consumers purchasing exterior-grade plywood siding reasonably expect the product to withstand ordinary rain, humidity, and seasonal weather conditions without rapidly deteriorating.

Premature delamination and moisture intrusion may do more than damage the siding itself. Once water penetrates the panel, moisture may reach underlying framing, insulation, and sheathing, potentially leading to rot, mold, or additional structural repairs that substantially increase the cost of remediation.

If certain T1-11 siding products contain manufacturing defects, inadequate moisture resistance, or are marketed with durability claims that are not supported under ordinary conditions, consumers may have paid premium prices for products that fail to perform as represented.

This investigation seeks to determine whether Georgia-Pacific and Boise Cascade knew or should have known that certain T1-11 plywood siding panels were prone to premature failure while continuing to market them as durable exterior siding products.

Signs You May Be Affected

You may be affected if:

  • You purchased or installed Georgia-Pacific Plytanium T1-11 or Boise Cascade Southern Yellow Pine T1-11 siding.
  • The siding bubbled, warped, swelled, cracked, or delaminated prematurely.
  • The damage occurred despite proper installation, priming, painting, and maintenance.
  • Water penetrated the siding or caused damage to the underlying structure.
  • Your warranty claim was denied despite following the manufacturer’s installation recommendations.
  • You still possess purchase records, photographs of the damage, contractor reports, or warranty correspondence.
