Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the Medusind Data Breach Investigation, regarding a breach that impacted 360,934 individuals and their personal information.
On December 29, 2023, Medusind, Inc. (“Medusind”) detected an unauthorized user had gained access to its computer network. Medusind’s subsequent investigation uncovered that a cybercriminal had stolen files containing the personally identifiable information of Medusind patients on the previously mentioned date. Specifically, the compromised information includes the following sensitive data:
- health insurance and billing information (such as insurance policy numbers or claims/benefits information),
- payment information (such as debit/credit card numbers or bank account information),
- health information (such as medical history, medical record number, or prescription information), government identification (such as Social Security number, taxpayer ID, driver’s license, or passport number), and
- other personal information (such as date of birth, email, address, or phone number).
Medusind Data Breach
Medusind recently filed notice of the data breach with the Maine Attorney General’s Office. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. As is likely to be the case with the Medusind data breach, in previous cyberattacks, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
