Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the Deloitte data breach investigation that affected an undetermined number of individuals enrolled in RIBridges and their personal information.
On December 5, 2024, Deloitte was alerted of unauthorized access on the RIBridges network. RIBridges is an important system that stores the PII of individuals receiving assistance from a number of critical programs in Rhode Island. Hackers confirmed that they had breached the system by sending Deloitte a screenshot of the data stored therein. Affected consumers were not notified of the Deloitte data breach until mid-December of 2024. Deloitte discovered that hackers were able to compromise a significant amount of personal information. The compromised information includes a variety of highly sensitive details including:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Addresses
- Financial account information
The Deloitte Data Breach Investigation
Deloitte informed Rhode Island authorities on or around December 10, 2024. As of the writing Deloitte has still not informed impacted parties. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. As is likely to be the case with the Deloitte data breach, in previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
