On February 28, 2024, VeriSource Services, Inc (“VSI”) noticed suspicious activity on its network. Through its subsequent investigation, VSI determined that unauthorized actors may have acquired personally identifiable information from its network environment on or about February 27, 2024. According to VSI, the compromised information includes full names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers.
The VeriSource Services, Inc. Data Breach Investigation
On August 20, 2024, VeriSource Services, Inc. began informing individuals of the breach through a mailed notice letter. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. As is likely to be the case with the VSI data breach, in previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
