The Dental Specialists Data Breach
On January 23, 2024, The Dental Specialists (“TDS”) discovered suspicious activity in some of its employee email accounts. TDS’ subsequent investigation uncovered that a hacker had accessed and copied files containing sensitive information of its patients residing within employee email accounts between January 11, 2024 and January 23, 2024. According to TDS, the compromised information impacted by the cyberattack includes full names, demographic information, medical information, health insurance information, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and financial account information. The TDS data breach is significant and may result in serious harm to the affected individuals.
The Dental Specialists recently began informing individuals of these breaches through a mailed notice letter. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
