Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the Advance Stores Company Incorporated data breach investigation, for a data breach affecting 2,316,591 individuals and their personal information.
The Advance Stores Company Incorporated Data Breach
On May 23, 2024, Advance Stores Company Incorporated (“Advance Auto Parts”) discovered that an unauthorized user had gained access to its employees’ personally identifiable information stored within Snowflake, Advance Auto Parts’ cloud storage and data warehousing vendor. Advance Auto Parts subsequently conducted an investigation, where it learned the cybercriminal had accessed and stolen employees’ sensitive information from April 10, 2024 and May 14, 2024. The Advance Auto Parts data breach is significant and may result in serious harm to the affected individuals.
Advance Auto Parts recently began informing individuals of these breaches through a mailed notice letter. Although Advance Auto Parts’ notification letter redacts the specific information leaked, it is likely the compromised data includes full names, Social Security numbers, driver’s licenses numbers, and government ID numbers.
All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
