M&R Investigates D.C. Landlords for Charging Excessive Rental Application Fees

DC Landlords Excess Fees

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating reports that landlords in the District of Columbia are charging unlawful fees for rental applications and other services.

About the Investigation

Under District law, a landlord is permitted to charge prospective tenants an application fee presently capped at $52. However, prior to signing a lease, the landlord may not charge a prospective tenant any additional fees. Despite these protections, tenants continue to report being charged additional non-refundable fees beyond the application fee, sometimes called administrative fees.

Migliaccio & Rathod is also investigating tenant complaints regarding other forms of excessive fees.
