On November 3, 2023, ASCW discovered unusual activity in an employee’s email account. ASCW conducted a subsequent investigation, which uncovered a cybercriminal had accessed and acquired emails within that employee’s account. In this data breach, the hacker obtained the sensitive information of ASCW patients between October 23, 2023, and November 3, 2023. On May 30, 2024, ACSW discovered that the compromised information includes full names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or state identification numbers, dates of birth, medical information, including diagnosis information, treatment information, prescription information, health insurance information, including claim information and health insurance ID numbers, and financial account information.
The Mount Kisco Surgery Center LLC d/b/a The Ambulatory Surgery Center of Westchester recently began informing individuals of these breaches through a mailed notice letter. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
