Migliaccio & Rathod is currently investigating providers of college scholarship assistance for allegedly sharing highly sensitive personal information with Meta, Google, and other “Big Tech” companies.
College scholarship assistance companies maintain websites that provide college applicants and students a convenient way to search and apply for scholarships. These companies do not tell their users that they pass your data along to Google, Facebook, Bing, and/or TikTok through undisclosed third-party web trackers. For example, the Meta Pixel is an invisible bit of code that is designed to allow a website owner to track visitors to their websites and passes user information back to Facebook, which then uses that information to sell advertising to the user. Other Big Tech companies are doing the same.
The following companies appear to have shared at least some of their user’s sensitive information with Big Tech companies:
- Niche.com
- Bold.org
- Scholarshipowl.com
- Goingmerry.com
- Scholarship.com
Many of these companies deal with sensitive information, such as financial, family, and demographic information. Users of these services have the illusion of secrecy, security, and privacy, when in fact their information is being passed off to Big Tech companies without their knowledge to be used to sell advertising to them.
Have you used any of these companies? Do any of these companies have your information? Are you aware of any other similar companies sharing your data?
If so, we would like to hear from you. Please complete the contact form on this page, send us an email at [email protected], or give us a call at (202) 470-3520.
