Bankers Life and Casualty Company Data Breach Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating Bankers Life and Casualty Company for a data breach affecting 45,842 individuals and their personal information.

On November 29, 2023, Bankers Life and Casualty Company became aware of a “SIM swapping” attack, by which a sophisticated threat actor targeted a company senior officer’s cellular account; as a result, unauthorized access to its data was obtained. This information includes name, date of birth, social security number, and policy number(s).

Bankers Life and Casualty Company recently began informing individuals of this breach through a mailed notice letter. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
