On August 22, 2023, McLaren Health Care became aware of a network disruption that occurred on or about July 28, 2023, and August 23, 2023, by which unauthorized access to its data was obtained. Patient information was impacted. This information includes names and the following: Social Security number, health insurance information, date of birth, and medical information including billing or claims information, diagnosis, physician information, medical record number, Medicare/Medicaid information, prescription/medication information, diagnostic and treatment information.
McLaren Health Care recently began informing individuals of this breach on November 9, 2023, through a mailed notice letter. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
