Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating the California-based corporation Cardiac Imaging Associates, A Medical Corporation (“CIA”). CIA is a medical imaging contractor for healthcare providers. In April of this year, an unauthorized third party gained access to patient data through an internal email account. Patient names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, payment card information, medical diagnosis and condition information, medical laboratory results information, medication and prescription information, and medical treatment information all may have been exposed.
CIA has only recently begun to send affected patients notice of the breach. Given how long it has been since the breach, hackers may have already been able to sell the data or otherwise benefit from the fraudulent misuse of such information. People affected by the data breach may have already noticed (or may soon notice) one or more of the following types of fraudulent activity related to their personal and health information: unauthorized credit card inquiries or charges, requests for loans or benefits in an individual’s name without their consent, inaccurate information in one’s medical file, or disrupted use of an institution’s website.
