Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating The Physicians’ Spine and Rehabilitation Specialists of Georgia, PC (“PSRS”), which recently notified the Department of Health and Human Services of an unauthorized security breach. Hackers may have seized patient names, addresses, email addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, state ID numbers, health insurance providers, or medical diagnoses.
PSRS became aware of the attack on or about July 11, but only began distributing data breach notification letters in September. As result, hackers may have already been able to sell the data or otherwise benefit from the fraudulent misuse of such information. People affected by the data breach may have already noticed (or may soon notice) one or more of the following types of fraudulent activity related to their personal and health information: unauthorized credit card inquiries or charges, requests for loans or benefits in an individual’s name without their consent, fake medical procedures ordered, or disrupted use of an institution’s website.
