Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating various 2013-2016 Audi models including the A8, S6, S7, S8, and RS7, for engine stalling due to failed turbochargers. At issue are the turbocharger oil strainers that become clogged and block the flow of oil to the turbocharger, making the turbochargers run dry and overheat. Audi owners have had this issue in city and highway driving conditions. Once it sets, the vehicle cannot be restarted. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into the issue once it learned of hundreds of complaints and warranty claims made by owners. Due to the complexity of the engine, as well as the placement of the oil strainer in a difficult to reach spot, servicing these Audi vehicles gets very expensive for owners.
Although Audi recalled around 26,000 vehicles in March 2022 and provided a 10-year/120,000-mile turbocharger warranty extension, NHTSA has since upgraded its investigation, as of June 1, 2022, which suggests serious issues may be involved with the adequacy of either Audi’s repairs and/or its warranty extension.
