Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating high shipping and handling fees for products ordered online. Shipping and handling fees should be reasonably related to the company’s cost for delivering or shipping the ordered product, and not act as an additional source of profit. Customers can estimate what a reasonable shipping and handling fee is by inputting delivery information onto the USPS’ Postage Price Calculator. According to recent lawsuits filed in California, charging shipping fees in excess of what the company pays for shipping, postage, and handling violates “established ethical principles recognized by the Direct Marketing Association.”
