Since early 2024, Lurie Children’s has been investigating the sophisticated cyberattack that had impacted its computer systems containing the personally identifiable information of its patients. Through its investigation, Lurie Children’s discovered that the data breach occurred between January 26, 2024 and January 31, 2024. The compromised information includes full names, Social Security numbers, mailing addresses, dates of birth, dates of service, driver’s license numbers, email addresses, health claims information, health plan information, health plan beneficiary numbers, medical conditions or diagnoses, medical record numbers, medical treatment information, prescription information, and telephone numbers,
Anne & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago recently began informing individuals of these breaches through a mailed notice letter. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
