The law firm of Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating reports of 4k panels being used on 1440p monitors. As a cost-saving measure, manufacturers are using firmware to downgrade the resolution of 4k, or UHD, panels (3840 x 2160) to instead display a resolution of 2560 x 1440, or QHD. The result of foregoing a dedicated 1440p panel for a 1440p screen is that of an image that is not as sharp as it otherwise should be. To find out whether your screen is housing a 4k panel instead of a dedicated 1440p one, take a look through the specifications sheet where pixel size is mentioned: The pixel size of UHD panels is 0.16 mm, while the pixel size of QHD panels is 0.23 mm. If your QHD screen has a pixel size of 0.16 mm, then you are looking at a modified 4k panel, not a dedicated 1440p one.
