Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating online guitar tutoring website TrueFire for failure to adequately safeguard consumer information, resulting in a data breach. On January 10th, 2020, Truefire discovered that a third party had taken advantage of a security vulnerability to gain unauthorized access to their computer system. Although TrueFire does not store customer information on their website, hackers may have accessed consumers’ credit card information as they made purchases in real-time. The data breach was open from August 3rd, 2019 to January 14th, 2020.
Vulnerable customer information includes:
- Name
- Address
- Payment Card Account Number
- Card Expiration Data
- Card Security Code
TrueFire did not notify users of the breach until March 9th, 2020, and their website fails to make any mention of the security failure. Due to this evasive response, many TrueFire users were dubious of the breach notice they received, unsure of its veracity.
