Lenovo Warranty Denial Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating allegations that Lenovo may be improperly denying warranty repairs for laptops by claiming that hardware failures resulted from contamination, insect infestations, liquid damage, or other forms of customer-induced damage.

Some Lenovo customers report that after sending their laptops to Lenovo or its authorized repair facilities for warranty service, they were informed that their repairs would not be covered because technicians identified an excluded condition. In some instances, consumers dispute these findings, question whether the alleged damage caused the original problem, or report that Lenovo failed to provide sufficient evidence supporting the denial.

Lenovo offers manufacturer warranties and additional protection plans, including Premium Care and Legion Ultimate Support, which provide coverage for qualifying repairs.

However, some consumers have reported warranty claim denials after repair facilities allegedly identified contamination, liquid exposure, or physical damage.

These reported issues include:

  • Biohazard and insect infestation claims: Consumers being told their laptops contained insects, insect droppings, or other contamination.
  • Disputed liquid damage: Lenovo allegedly denying warranty coverage because of liquid exposure, despite consumers reporting that no spills occurred.
  • Customer-induced damage findings: Hardware failures being classified as accidental or user-caused damage despite occurring during normal use.
  • Lack of supporting evidence: Consumers allegedly receiving little or no photographic or diagnostic evidence explaining why their warranty claims were denied.
  • Denied appeals: Lenovo allegedly refusing to reconsider warranty decisions after consumers disputed the findings or submitted contrary evidence.

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating whether Lenovo and its authorized repair providers properly evaluate warranty claims and apply warranty exclusions.

Consumers May Have Experienced:

  • Denial of warranty coverage despite having an active manufacturer warranty or purchased protection plan;
  • Unexpected repair charges for hardware failures they believed should have been covered;
  • Allegations of liquid damage, contamination, or insect infestations that they believe were inaccurate;
  • Refusal to provide photographs, inspection reports, or other documentation supporting a warranty denial;
  • Rejection of appeals challenging the repair facility’s findings;
  • Additional expenses to repair or replace laptops after warranty service was denied.

Potential Claims May Include:

  • Breach of express warranty;
  • Breach of contract;
  • Violations of the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act;
  • Violations of state consumer protection laws;
  • Unfair or deceptive business practices;
  • Misrepresentation of warranty coverage.

Signs You May Be Affected:

  • You own a Lenovo Legion, Yoga, ThinkPad, IdeaPad, LOQ, or another Lenovo laptop;
  • Lenovo denied your warranty repair because of alleged liquid damage, contamination, insects, biohazards, or customer-induced damage;
  • You believe the alleged damage did not exist or was unrelated to your laptop’s malfunction;
  • Lenovo refused to provide evidence supporting its warranty denial;
  • You unsuccessfully disputed or appealed a warranty denial;
  • You paid out of pocket for repairs or replacement despite having an active warranty or protection plan.
