Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating a hazardous chemical leak in Toledo, Ohio, that forced nearby residents to evacuate their homes and left 60 people being treated for symptoms.
The Toledo Chemical Leak Incident
On October 20, 2026, a hazardous chemical leak occurred at an industrial facility in Toledo, Ohio, releasing a potentially dangerous substance into the surrounding area. The incident involved a 5,500-gallon tank containing glycidyl methacrylate, a chemical used in manufacturing plastics, paints, and coatings.
Ohio environmental officials reported that the chemical was released following an error during the transfer of material. The chemical can cause irritation and burning of the eyes, nose, mouth, and skin, as well as other potentially serious symptoms.
Following the leak, officials ordered residents within a one-mile radius to evacuate and instructed individuals within a three-mile radius to shelter in place. Residents were advised to remain indoors, close windows and doors, and shut off ventilation systems bringing in outside air. Although the shelter-in-place order was lifted on October 21st, and the evacuation zone was reduced to a half-mile radius, some residents remained displaced.
