Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating whether certain Sea to Summit Ether Light sleeping pads may provide less thermal insulation than consumers expect based on their advertised R-values.
This investigation concerns insulation performance and is separate from reports of pinhole leaks involving Sea to Summit Ether Light XT and XT Extreme sleeping pads.
The newer Sea to Summit Ether Light XR has been advertised with an R-value of approximately 4.1. Some consumers have reported that the pad feels substantially colder than expected from that rating. Similar concerns have also been raised about earlier Ether Light products.
Why R-Value Matters
R-value is intended to help consumers compare the insulation performance of sleeping pads across different brands.
A camper purchasing an R-4.1 sleeping pad for cooler weather may reasonably expect it to perform similarly to other pads carrying comparable standardized ratings.
Some Sea to Summit Ether Light owners, however, report unexpectedly poor ground insulation or noticeably less warmth than pads with similar or even lower advertised R-values.

- false or misleading advertising;
- misleading representations concerning R-value or thermal performance;
- breach of express warranty;
- deceptive trade practices; and
- price-premium or diminished-value damages.

- You purchased a Sea to Summit Ether Light XT, XT Extreme, XR, or related insulated sleeping pad;
- the advertised R-value influenced your purchase;
- you selected the pad for cooler-weather or three-season camping;
- the pad felt substantially colder than another product with a similar or lower advertised R-value;
