KitchenAid Induction Cooktop Touch-Control Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports that certain KitchenAid induction cooktops may experience touch-control problems, including burners shutting off when the control area becomes wet and controls becoming difficult or impossible to operate.

Induction cooktops often rely on touch-sensitive control panels located directly on or next to the cooking surface. Ordinary cooking can expose those controls to steam, water droplets, spills, grease, and routine wiping.

Recent consumer reports raise questions about whether certain KitchenAid induction controls are excessively sensitive to moisture or may become prematurely unresponsive.

Consumers Report:

  • burners shutting off when the controls become wet;
  • water or moisture interfering with normal operation;
  • controls failing to register button presses;
  • needing to repeatedly press a control before it responds;
  • touch controls becoming unreliable after only a few months; and
  • dissatisfaction with warranty repairs.

One consumer reported that wet controls caused burners to turn off. Another reported needing as many as 39 button presses to obtain a response after approximately three months of ownership.

Potential Claims May Include:

  • defective touch-control design;
  • moisture-sensitive control-system defects;
  • premature electronic failure;
  • breach of express or implied warranty;
  • failure to provide an effective repair; and
  • unfair or deceptive trade practices.

Signs You May Be Affected:

  • You purchased a KitchenAid induction cooktop;
  • water, steam, or ordinary cooking splatter causes the burners to shut off;
  • the touch panel becomes unresponsive when wet;
  • controls require repeated presses before responding;
  • the problem developed shortly after purchase;
  • a control panel, sensor, or electronic component was replaced;
  • the problem returned after warranty service; or
  • you have videos, service records, error messages, or communications documenting the issue.

The available reports are currently more limited than those involving certain Frigidaire induction ranges. This investigation is therefore intended in part to determine whether KitchenAid owners are experiencing a broader recurring touch-control problem.
