Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports that Yamaha Connext touchscreen displays may suffer from a premature design defect causing the displays to bubble, delaminate, fog, or lose touch functionality after only three to five years of normal recreational use.
What Consumers Report
Consumers report:
- Touchscreen displays bubbling or delaminating.
- Fogging or discoloration that makes the display difficult to read.
- Loss of touchscreen responsiveness.
- Inability to access GPS, engine information, ballast controls, fuel data, or safety alarms.
- Replacement costs between approximately $5,000 and $10,000.
- Replacement displays being backordered for months or more than a year.
- Resorting to third-party repairs because replacement parts are unavailable.
- Believing Yamaha knew about the defect but failed to issue a recall or warranty extension.
Why Consumers Should Be Concerned
The Connext display controls many of the vessel’s primary operating systems. A failed display may significantly impair navigation, engine monitoring, safety alerts, and other important functions while requiring expensive replacement.
Potential claims may include:
- Breach of express warranty
- Breach of implied warranty
- Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act
- Failure to disclose a known defect
- Consumer protection violations
- Unjust enrichment
