Third-Party Gift Card Seller Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating reports that certain online gift card sellers fail to deliver eGift codes, provide zero balances, or deny refunds despite nonperformance.

What Customers Report About Third-Party Gift Cards

On Slickdeals and similar platforms, consumers describe buying eGift cards through marketplaces like Newegg or other third-party sellers only to encounter long delivery delays, inactive codes, or missing funds. Many promotions are labeled “non-returnable” or “non-refundable,” leaving customers with no recourse. Others report unexpected fees or undisclosed shipping charges.

Why Consumers Should Be Concerned

When merchants charge for products they don’t deliver—or refuse refunds for nonfunctional codes—they may violate state unfair or deceptive acts and practices (UDAP) laws. Inadequate disclosure of delivery timing, fees, or refund limitations can also constitute consumer fraud.

Signs You May Be Affected by Gift Card Promotions

  • You purchased digital gift cards that never arrived or arrived inactive.
  • You were denied a refund despite receiving no usable card.
  • The seller failed to disclose delivery times or additional fees.
