Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating low-cost inflatable stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) sold on Amazon and Walmart for seam failures, chronic air leaks, and sudden deflation risks.
Common Defects Reported
- Seam splits and sidewall bursts after only a few outings.
- Rapid air leaks, sometimes triggered by sun exposure.
- Premature seam-glue failure from heat and adhesive degradation.
Consumers have described hearing hissing noises as their paddleboard lost air. Even FunWater, a leading Amazon SUP brand, admits in its FAQ that paddleboards can “burst” in hot weather. Walmart SUP listings often reference “anti-air leaking” technology—language that may signal recurring design flaws.
Safety Risks for Paddleboards
Sudden SUP deflation while on open water can lead to stranding or drowning hazards. Because many budget boards are sold by temporary Amazon/Walmart brands with limited warranties, this appears to be an industry-wide problem, not an isolated defect.
