Whisker Litter Robot 4 Sensor Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating widespread sensor failures in the Whisker Litter Robot 4, including defective “drawer full,” weight, and safety sensors that may cause the device to malfunction, shut down, or pose risks to pets.

Reported Issues

Consumers report persistent electronic failures despite the product’s “premium” marketing:

  • False “drawer full” readings even with empty waste bins
  • “Cat sensor fault” errors that prevent cycling
  • Machines stuck in endless cycling loops or freezing mid-cycle
  • Pinch detection sensors that fail to respond, raising pet-safety concerns
  • Manufacturer selling replacement sensors for ~$50 once the system is 12–18 months old
  • BBB complaints about post-warranty part charges and long support delays

Many users say firmware updates promised to “fix” the sensors but did not resolve the underlying issues.

Why Consumers Should Be Concerned

These failures may violate:

  • State UDAP laws covering deceptive durability claims
  • Magnuson–Moss and implied-warranty standards if the units fail prematurely
  • Pet-safety obligations, where malfunctioning devices create health or injury risks

The terms of use require arbitration, but injunctive-relief and Magnuson–Moss claims often fall outside arbitration clauses, allowing class treatment.
