Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is currently investigating the 2025 Honda Odyssey for a defective auto start/stop system. A vehicle’s auto start/stop system is intended to save fuel by turning the vehicle’s engine off when idling, which typically occurs at intersections when waiting for a traffic light to change, or at a stop sign. The system typically engages when the driver fully presses the brake pedal. When the driver takes their foot off of the brake pedal, the vehicle should re-engage the engine so the driver can continue to drive.

Owners of the 2025 Honda Odyssey report, however, that their start/stop systems shut off the vehicle’s engine when stopped and fail to turn the engine back on when they take their foot off of the brake pedal. This presents serious safety concerns because vehicles can become stalled while in moving traffic. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”) has an open investigation into this issue. Concerningly, NHTSA’s investigation details that owners continue reporting issues even after receiving software updates that were intended to rectify the problem.
