Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating whether voice-cloning apps, including Voice.ai and similar services, use deceptive auto-renewal practices and exploit users’ uploaded voices for AI training without consent.
What Users Report About Voice-Cloning Apps
Customers report signing up for “3-day free trials” that auto-renew into multi-month paid plans with no in-app cancel option and strict no-refund policies. Others discovered that their uploaded voices were reused to train AI models, buried deep in privacy policies.
Why Consumers Should Be Concerned
These practices may violate state Automatic-Renewal Laws (such as California’s Bus. & Prof. Code § 17602), unfair-competition statutes, and right-of-publicity laws protecting personal likeness and voice. Users may be entitled to refunds and damages for unauthorized use of biometric data.
Signs You May Be Affected by Voice-Cloning Apps
- You were charged after a “free trial” ended and could not cancel easily.
- You were denied a refund or told cancellations must occur through obscure steps.
• • You uploaded voice samples later reused or stored without consent.
