AI Resume-Builder Site Dark Pattern Investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is investigating whether AI resume-builder sites such as Resume.io use dark pattern sign-ups, hidden recurring fees, and unauthorized data-sharing with recruiters and brokers.

What Job-Seekers Report About AI Resume-Builders

Users report signing up for low-cost trials (around $2.95) only to discover undisclosed $25–$30 recurring charges and missing “Cancel” links. Privacy pages also reveal default consent to sell or share personal data with third parties.

Why Job-Seekers Should Be Concerned

These practices may violate automatic-renewal and dark pattern laws enforced by the FTC, California, and Colorado, as well as state privacy acts like the CCPA/CPRA. Misleading claims about “ATS-optimized” resumes may also breach false-advertising laws.

Signs You May Be Affected by Dark Pattern Sign-Ups

  • You were charged monthly after a small “trial” fee without clear disclosure.
  • You couldn’t find an easy online cancellation option.
  • You later learned your resume or data was sold or shared.

If you were misled or overcharged by an AI resume-builder, contact [email protected] or (202) 470-3520 for a free case review.

The following will ask for your contact information so that we may reach you to talk about potential claims. This information is for our records only and will not be shared. By continuing, you consent to the collection of this information for these limited purposes.
