Baby Product Pricing & Labeling Investigation

Are You Paying More for the Same Thing?

Many parents go out of their way to choose a baby product that is safe and gentle for their children, especially when it comes to skin care, bath products, and other items labeled “for babies.” But what if the only difference between the “baby” and “adult” versions of a product is the packaging and the price?

We’re investigating whether some retailers are charging a premium for products labeled as “baby” that are identical in formulation to their adult counterparts. These products are often:

  • Advertised separately in the baby section of stores

  • Labeled and marketed as specially made for infants

  • Priced significantly higher than the regular version, despite having the same ingredients in the same order

For example, moisturizers, body washes, and lotions labeled “baby” may actually be chemically identical to the standard version sold just a few aisles over, but with a higher price tag.

Why This Matters

Consumers, especially parents, deserve transparency. If you purchased a baby product because it was advertised as uniquely safe or specially made for babies, and it turns out to be no different than the adult version, you may have:

  • Paid an unnecessary price premium

  • Been misled by labeling or placement

  • Missed out on cheaper alternatives you would’ve chosen if given full information

This practice could violate state and federal consumer protection laws, including those that prohibit deceptive marketing and unfair business practices.

What to Watch For

Have you seen a product labeled “for babies” that costs more than the adult version, even though the ingredient lists are identical?

Examples may include:

  • Eczema creams

  • Shampoos or body washes

  • Lotions or sunscreens

  • Wipes or detergents

If so, you may have a claim and we want to hear from you.
