Both hard and soft tops for this vehicle appear to be affected, as owners report problems with the clips used to secure both covers. Improperly secured vehicle tops allow for water to enter the vehicle during inclement weather, typically through the passenger-side A-pillar, though owners have reported leaks down the rear windshield, as well. Outside wind noise similarly enters the cabin due to improper sealing, affecting the efficiency of heating or cooling systems and resulting in a noisier cabin.
Ford has issued a number of Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) attempting to remedy this problem, to little success, and which, in any event, do not cover all model years and vehicles affected. Below is an example of a TSB issued for this vehicle:
