Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the Reading Cooperative Bank Data Breach Investigation, regarding a breach that impacted 24,041 individuals and their personal information.
Reading Cooperative Bank (“RCB“) recently announced that it had fallen victim to a phishing attack. Specifically, RCB stated that an employee had inadvertently clicked on a malicious link (sent by an organization known to the bank). RCB subsequently conducted an investigation, which determined the cyberattack allowed a hacker to steal individuals’ personally identifiable information. The compromised information includes the following sensitive data:
- full names
- Social Security numbers
- medical records
- financial account information
- driver’s licenses
- credit and debit card numbers
The Reading Cooperative Data Breach
Reading Cooperative Bank recently provided notice of the data breach. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. As is likely to be the case with the RCB data breach, in previous cyberattacks, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
