Concord Orthopaedics Data Breach Investigation

data breach investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the Concord Orthopaedics Data Breach Investigation, regarding a breach that impacted 67,835 individuals and their personal information.

On November 21, 2024, Concord Orthopaedics (“COPA“) was notified by a third-party vendor that the software COPA uses to check-in patients and prospective patients for appointments had fallen victim to a cyberattack. COPA subsequently conducted an investigation, which uncovered a cybercriminal had stolen the patient registration and appointment intake information stored therein on the above-referenced date. The compromised information includes the following sensitive data:

  • full names
  • Social Security numbers
  • appointment type information
  • treating physician names
  • appointment dates and locations
  • driver’s license numbers
  • government-issued identification numbers
  • health insurance information

COPA Data Breach

Concord Orthopaedics recently provided notice of the data breach. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. As is likely to be the case with the COPA data breach, in previous cyberattacks, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
