Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the Excelsior Orthopaedics Data Breach Investigation, regarding a breach that impacted 357,000 individuals and their personal information.
On June 23, 2024, Excelsior Orthopaedics, LP (“Excelsior Orthopaedics”) detected an unauthorized user had gained access to its computer network. Excelsior Orthopaedics’s subsequent investigation uncovered that a cybercriminal had stolen files containing the personally identifiable information of Excelsior Orthopaedics patients and/or employees, particularly those of the Buffalo Surgery Center, on the previously mentioned date. Specifically, the compromised information includes the following sensitive data:
- Full name,
- address,
- date of birth,
- Social Security Number,
- Driver’s License number,
- non-driver identification card number, and
- biometric information.
Excelsior Orthopaedics Data Breach
Excelsior Orthopaedics recently filed notice of the data breach with the Maine Attorney General’s Office. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. As is likely to be the case with the Excelsior Orthopaedics data breach, in previous cyberattacks, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
