OnePoint Patient Care Data Breach Investigation

data breach investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the OnePoint Patient Care data breach investigation that affected approximately 795,000 individuals and their personal information.

On August 8, 2024, OnePoint Patient Care discovered suspicious activity on its network and launched an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the breach. On August 15, 2024, OPPC learned that, between August 6 and 8, 2024, someone obtained some individuals’ personal information from OnePoint Patient Care’s systems without authorization. Affected consumers were not notified of the OnePoint Patient Care data breach until October 21, 2024, on a rolling basis. OnePoint Patient Care discovered that hackers were able to compromise a significant amount of personal information. The compromised information includes a variety of highly sensitive details including:

  • Names,
  • Residence information,
  • Medical record number,
  • Diagnosis and prescription information.
  • For a subset of customers, Social Security numbers were also at issue.

The OnePoint Patient Care Data Breach Investigation

OnePoint Patient Care informed the Texas State Attorney General’s office of the breach. OnePoint Patient Care also posted a notice on its website. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. As is likely to be the case with the OnePoint Patient Care data breach, in previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
