Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the Boston Children’s Health Physicians Data Breach Investigation that affected an undetermined number of individuals and their personal information.
Boston Children’s Health Physicians (“BCHP”) learned that one of its vendors discovered unusual activity in its systems on September 6, 2024. BCHP subsequently noticed strange activity on its own network on September 10, 2024. After shutting down the affected systems and conducting an investigation, BCHP learned that it had fallen victim to a cyberattack on September 10, 2024, whereby a cybercriminal stole the personally identifiable information of BCHP employees and patients (including their guarantors) stored therein. The compromised information includes the following sensitive data:
- full names
- Social Security numbers
- physical addresses
- dates of birth
- driver’s license numbers
- medical record numbers
- health insurance information
- billing information
- “limited” treatment information
Boston Children’s Health Physicians Data Breach
Boston Children’s Health Physicians recently posted notice of the data breach. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. As is likely to be the case with the BCHP data breach, in previous cyberattacks, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
