On November 9, 2023, Tri-City Healthcare District discovered suspicious activity on its network and launched an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the breach. The investigation determined that Tri-City Healthcare District’s network was subject to unauthorized access on November 8, 2023. On or about September 27, 2024, Tri-City Healthcare District learned the extent of the information and customers affected. Affected consumers were not notified of the Tri-City Healthcare District data breach until October 11, 2024. Tri-City Healthcare District discovered that hackers were able to compromise a significant amount of personal information. The compromised information includes a variety of highly sensitive details including:
- Name,
- Address,
- Date of Birth,
- Social Security number,
- Medical information,
- Health insurance information, and
- Treatment cost.
Tri-City Healthcare District Data Breach Investigation
Tri-City Healthcare District informed the Maine State Attorney General’s office of the breach, where a copy of the consumer notification letter can be found. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. As is likely to be the case with the Tri-City Healthcare District data breach, in previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
