data breach investigation

Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Data Breach Investigation that affected an undetermined number of individuals and their personal information.

In July 2024, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (“MetLife”) learned of an intrusion into the computer network containing the personally identifiable information of its retirement plan customers. According to MetLife, a service provider first discovered that an unauthorized party had accessed the sensitive data on February 22, 2024, and after an investigation, it determined that MetLife files were affected by the Data Breach. MetLife ultimately determined that the compromised information includes the following private information:

  • Full Names
  • Dates of Birth
  • Social Security Numbers
  • Policy Numbers

Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Data Breach

Metropolitan Life Insurance Company recently sent notification to affected customers informing them of the data breach. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. As is likely to be the case with the MetLife data breach, in previous cyber-attacks, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
