On September 5, 2023, Kovack Financial discovered suspicious activity on its computer network. Kovack Financial subsequently conducted an investigated, where it discovered that a hacker had gained access to client data and files containing their personally identifiable information stored within its computer network. Hackers had been able to access Kovack Financial’s files from August 15, 2023, to September 5, 2023. The Kovack Financial data breach is significant and dangerous for victims.
The Kovack Financial Data Breach
Kovack Financial recently began informing individuals of these breaches through a mailed notice letter. Kovack Financial’s letter posted on government authorities’ website redacts the specific information that was leaked, but it is possible that individuals’ full names were leaked in association with their Social Security Numbers and other important private information.
All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
