Migliaccio & Rathod LLP is involved in the Allianz Global Risks U.S. Insurance Company (“Allianz Global”) data breach investigation, for a data breach affecting 44,114 individuals and their personal information.
On May 31, 2023, Allianz Global (via Enstar (US) Inc., a third-party vendor) learned that its MOVEit transfer server contained a previously unknown vulnerability (also known as a zero-day vulnerability). A subsequent investigation uncovered that an unauthorized party, later identified as the cybercriminal group called “CLOP,” had accessed and stolen the private identifiable information of Allianz Global consumers contained on its servers between May 29, 2023 and May 31, 2023. Specifically, individuals who purchased insurance policies and those who made insurance claims with Allianz Global are impacted by the data breach. The compromised information includes names and Social Security numbers.
Allianz Global Risks U.S. Insurance Company (via Enstar (US) Inc.) recently began informing individuals of these breaches through a mailed notice letter. All of the information stolen is likely valuable and dangerous to affected victims. In previous data breaches, victims of data theft have noticed identity theft attempts ranging from fraudulent charges on bank accounts or credit cards, to unauthorized credit card applications, to medical services or government services ordered in their name, to their information being posted on the dark web, to a massive uptick in the number of spam text messages, calls and emails received.
